
Young Investigator Award for Veteran Cancer
The Young Investigator Award for Veteran Cancer provides a one-year, $50,000 mentored grant to support physicians transitioning from oncology fellowship to faculty who are U.S. Veterans or whose research focuses on cancer issues affecting Veterans. Awardees conduct a patient-oriented clinical oncology project under the guidance of an experienced mentor.
Eligibility Criteria:

Physician (MD, DO, or international equivalent) in the last two years of oncology subspecialty training at a U.S. academic medical institution

Within 10 years of obtaining medical degree at time of submission (exceptions may apply for foreign graduates)

Planning an investigative career in clinical oncology

Valid, active U.S. medical license where research will be conducted

Working in an oncology laboratory or clinical research setting

At least 60% protected research time during the award year

ASCO member (or submitted membership application)

Mentor from the sponsoring institution (must be ASCO member or have a supporting ASCO letter)

Plus one of the following Veteran-focused criteria:
– The applicant is a U.S. Veteran
– The proposed research uses Veteran patient populations/data or addresses cancers prevalent in Veterans or health-services research to improve oncology care for Veterans

Duration: 1 year (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027)

Supports personnel, research expenses, and travel to present at the ASCO Annual Meeting

No overlap allowed with other scientific/budgetary funding
