
CRUK Prevention and Population Research Programme Award
The Prevention and Population Research Programme Award (PPRP) provides up to £2.5 million over five years to established researchers leading multidisciplinary programmes that transform cancer prevention, aetiology, epidemiology, behavioural interventions, methodology, and policy.
Eligibility Criteria:

Host & Position: Must be an independent research scientist at a UK university or research institute for the full award duration.

Track Record: Extensive postdoctoral experience with an internationally recognized publication and funding record, and proven ability to run an independent research group.
Scientific Remit (select one or more):

Epidemiology & Aetiology: Population-based studies (classical, clinical, molecular) to define risk factors, incidence trends, survival drivers, and secondary treatment effects.

Methodology & Statistics: Development of novel statistical and methodological approaches for prevention and population science.

Risk Stratification & Prevention Trials: Identification of high-risk groups, exploratory/confirmatory trials of chemopreventive agents, and population-level screening studies.

Behavioural & Lifestyle Interventions: Design and evaluation of interventions targeting tobacco, alcohol, physical activity, obesity, UV exposure, and other modifiable risk factors.

Policy Research: Evidence to inform CRUK policy and advocacy (e.g., tobacco control strategies).
Note: Early diagnosis research falls under the Early Detection & Diagnosis Committee.
Funding Details:

Duration: 5 years (annual milestone reviews).

Quantum: Up to £2.5 million total, covering:

Salaries for postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and PhD students

Running costs (consumables, travel, data management)
-
Equipment up to £50,000

(Cannot fund PI salary; may support one co-investigator’s salary per CRUK policy)
