NMRC Open Fund – Large Collaborative Grant (OF-LCG)

The NMRC Open Fund – Large Collaborative Grant (OF-LCG) supports ambitious, interdisciplinary translational research programmes that integrate basic and/or applied research to advance patient-centric innovations. Teams from multiple Singapore public institutions collaborate to drive discoveries from bench to policy and practice, fostering international and industry partnerships.

Eligibility Criteria:

Leadership Team: One Corresponding PI plus up to five Theme PIs. All PIs must:
- Hold a primary appointment and salary at a Singapore public institution (hospital, AMC, PHI, or university).
- Possess a PhD or MD/MBBS/BDS (exceptions case-by-case).
- Be independent investigators with nationally competitive funding or strong publication records in the past three years.
- Maintain an active laboratory or clinical research programme in Singapore.
- Be employed ≥ 9 months/year locally and commit to ≥ 6 months’ residency per grant year.
- Have no outstanding reports from prior national grants.
- For patient-involving studies: PI or Co-I must be SMC-registered or demonstrate patient-access via SMC-registered collaborators.
Research Scope: Translational research underpinned by basic and/or applied research—no pure basic, pure clinical, or pure applied proposals.
Priority Themes: Open to all areas; seven national priority domains: cancers & neoplasms, cardiovascular, eye, infection, mental health, metabolic & endocrine, and neurological. Specific calls may emphasize two or three areas.

Funding Details:

Tier 1: Up to S$10 million (inclusive of 30% indirect costs) over up to 5 years.
Tier 2: Up to S$25 million (inclusive of 30% indirect costs) over up to 5 years.
Funds support multidisciplinary teams, infrastructure, international or industry partnerships, and clearly articulated pathways to health- and economic-impact.

Full Proposal Submission: September 6 – October 18, 2024; submit via IGMS by October 18 2024, 5:00 PM. (Only shortlisted LOIs invited to FI stage.)
