
F.R.S.-FNRS Research Fellow Fellowship (ASP – Aspirant·e)
The Research Fellow Fellowship (ASP) from the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique – FNRS supports outstanding early-stage researchers in completing their PhD (within up to four years, extendable to six for disabled researchers) under the supervision of a qualified promoter at a French-speaking Belgian university .
Eligibility Criteria:

Academic Qualification: Master’s degree (120 ECTS) from a recognised institution (Belgian French- or Dutch-language universities, specified Benelux/Baltic institutions, or equivalent) or proof of entry into a French-language Belgian doctoral programme .

Timing: PhD defence no more than three years before the call’s rector validation deadline (plus extensions for childbirth, adoption, or career breaks).

Promoter: Must be a tenured academic at a French-speaking Belgian university, with finalized appointment by the fellowship start (1 October) .

Repeat Applications: Applicants may submit only once to ASP (and up to three times total across ASP and renewals) and cannot hold prior two successive FRIA or FRESH fellowships .
Funding Details:

Duration: Up to 2 years (3 years for researchers with disabilities), renewable once (same maximum).

Support: Monthly stipend plus an operating credit for research expenses under promoter’s management.

Activities: Full-time research toward the PhD; up to 8 hrs/week of teaching or supervision permitted; no salaried positions or professional activities.
