
Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Individual Senior Fellows Award (F33)
The NIH F33 fellowship offers up to two years of support for experienced, independent investigators (≥7 years post-PhD) to broaden their scientific expertise or change research direction—often via sabbatical-style mentored research at a host institution.
Eligibility Criteria

Experience: Minimum of seven years of postdoctoral research beyond the doctorate, having achieved independent investigator status.

Citizenship: U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent resident.

Sponsor & Institution: Must secure acceptance by a sponsoring active investigator at an eligible domestic or foreign institution who will supervise the fellowship research.
Funding Details

Duration: Up to 2 years of full-time research training.

Stipend: NIH NRSA stipend level for ≥7-year fellows (cap applies).

Training-Related Expenses: Up to $5,000/year for allowable costs (e.g., travel, supplies).
