
NWO Talent Programme – Vici (Science Domain)
The NWO Vici grant empowers outstanding senior researchers (within 15 years of PhD) to build and lead their own research groups—providing up to €1.5 million over five years for innovative, high-impact scientific programmes across seven Science panels.
Eligibility Criteria:

PhD obtained no earlier than 1 March 2010 (15 years before the 2025 benchmark); extensions for major life events possible.

Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills, with academic achievements “clearly exceeding what is customary” among international peers.

Employed at a Dutch or (if eligible) foreign research institution; E-level researcher (senior postdoc or tenure-track and above).
Funding Details:

Amount: Up to 1 500 000 EURO (direct costs) for a maximum of five years.

Use of Funds: Salaries for group members, consumables, equipment, travel, and other research expenses. Lump sum model—no separate overheads.
Deadlines & Procedure:

Pre-proposal: Submit by 11 March, 14:00 CET—assessed on Quality of the Researcher.

Full Proposal (invited): Submit by 9 September 2025, 14:00 CEST—assessed on Research Quality & Innovation (75%) and Scientific/Societal Impact (25%).

Assessment: Domain-wide competition across Earth Sciences, Astronomy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Life Sciences, Physics, and Mathematics. Process includes committee reviews, external refereeing, rebuttals, and final NWO Board decisions.
