
EHA Physician Scientist Research Grant
The European Hematology Association’s Physician Scientist Research Grant supports junior physician-scientists in Europe to conduct basic or translational lab-based hematology research—providing €80,000 per year for three years to gain research and leadership experience en route to becoming independent group leaders.
Eligibility Criteria:

EHA Membership & Host Institution: Applicant must be an EHA member employed at an academic research centre (or equivalent) in Europe, with departmental and institutional support.

Career Stage: Physician-scientist (MD or equivalent), within eight years of PhD graduation, MD graduation, or completion of hematology training—whichever is most recent.

Research Commitment: At least 50% protected time for the proposed lab-based or translational research project; head-of-department letter confirming protected time and research location required.

Track Alignment: Project topic should align with the applicant’s clinical specialty for maximal impact (e.g., myeloproliferative neoplasm mouse models for lab work, clinical treatment translational studies).
Funding Details:

Award Amount: €80,000 per year (up to 3 years)

Use of Funds: Salary support, consumables, reagents, small equipment, and research-related travel. Overheads and large-scale infrastructure costs are not covered.

Optional Topic-In-Focus: Dedicated Awards for hemoglobinopathies or precision hematology under the same terms.
