
CPRIT Recruitment of First-Time, Tenure-Track Faculty Members
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) offers a five-year Recruitment of First-Time, Tenure-Track Faculty Members Award to help Texas institutions attract outstanding early-career cancer researchers to assistant-professor positions—providing start-up funding for innovative basic, translational, clinical, or population-based programs .
Eligibility Criteria:

Nominating Institution: Nonprofit Texas-based academic or research entity.

Principal Investigator: Holds a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DDS/DMD, DO, DrPH, DVM, etc.); not yet in a tenure-track assistant-professor or higher position; commits ≥ 70% effort to research; minimal clinical/teaching/administrative duties.

Institutional Nomination: PI must be nominated by the institution’s president, provost, or dean; only one nomination per PI and one institution per nomination.

Match Commitment: Recruiting institution provides financial support equal to ≥ 50% of the total requested CPRIT funding over five years.

Compliance: No conflicts of interest with CPRIT Oversight Committee; institution must enforce a tobacco-free workplace and be eligible for federal funds.
Funding Details:

Total Award: Up to $2 million (total costs) over five years, including up to 5% indirect costs.

Uses: Support the PI’s research program (supplies, core facility access, travel for two staff to CPRIT conference, one-time equipment justification in Year 1).

Salary & Renovation Exclusions: Funds may not be used for PI salary support or laboratory construction/renovation.

Start-Up Flexibility: Annual disbursement schedules tailored to PI needs; unspent funds generally lapse after five years unless a no-cost extension is justified.

Applications are accepted in rolling cycles from June 23, 2025 through June 22, 2026. For each cycle, submit by 11:59 PM CT on the 20th calendar day (or the following Monday if it falls on a weekend). See Key Dates section for exact review and award dates .
