
CPRIT Recruitment of Established Investigators
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) seeks to recruit world-class cancer researchers to Texas universities and cancer centers. Through this five-year award, CPRIT funds up to $6 million in direct and indirect costs to help institutions attract senior investigators whose leadership and discoveries will advance cancer biology, prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship.
Eligibility Criteria:

Nominating Institution: Any Texas-based nonprofit academic or research institution.

Principal Investigator (PI): Must hold a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DDS/DMD, DO, DrPH, DVM, etc.) and an external full-professor (or equivalent) appointment at nomination time; not currently residing in Texas; commit ≥70% effort to research; no major clinical/teaching/admin duties; no co-investigators.

Institutional Match: Recruiting institution must document and provide institutional support equal to ≥50% of the total requested CPRIT funding over the award period (e.g., salary, research support).

Conflict-of-Interest & Compliance: Neither PI nor key personnel may have made or receive prohibited contributions, and must not be related to CPRIT Oversight Committee members; must demonstrate eligibility to receive federal funds and a tobacco-free workplace policy.
Funding Details:

Total Award: Up to $6,000,000 (total costs) over 5 years, including up to 5% indirect costs.

Salary Support: PI salary capped at $225,000/year (FY 2026 base salary) plus fringe; institutional match covers any shortfall.

Direct Costs: Research program support, supplies, up to two staff travel to CPRIT conference, and one-time equipment request in Year 1 with strong justification.

Restrictions: No funds for construction/renovation; unspent funds generally cannot carry beyond 5 years without CPRIT approval.
Deadline:
Applications are accepted in recurring review cycles between June 23, 2025 and June 22, 2026. For each cycle, applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM CT on the 20th calendar day (or the following Monday if the 20th falls on a weekend). Key cycle open/close dates and award notifications are posted in the RFA and on the CPRIT website.
