
Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers
The Academy of Medical Sciences–Wellcome Starter Grants provide up to £30,000 over 1–2 years to research-active clinical lecturers (medical, dental, or veterinary) to generate preliminary data and strengthen applications for longer-term fellowships.
Eligibility Criteria:

Research-active clinical lecturer (or equivalent veterinary clinician) in higher speciality training.

Hold a PhD or MD plus a medical, dental, or veterinary undergraduate degree.

Based at a UK higher education or research institution.
Funding Details:

Amount: Up to £30,000 total

Duration: 1–2 years

Use of Funds: Directly incurred research costs (consumables, small equipment); part-time use of existing staff time permitted.

Exclusions: Personal salary; PhD students; postdoctoral staff; new research assistant hires.
Deadline:
Two rounds per year:
