
MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship
The MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship supports registered healthcare professionals with a PhD to develop as independent researchers over a five-year period—funding 80% of full economic costs (FEC) for salary and project expenses, with optional co-funding from partner organizations.
Eligibility Criteria:

Registered healthcare professional (e.g., doctor, nurse, pharmacist, AHP, clinical scientist, veterinarian) with completed PhD or equivalent.

Demonstrated evidence of career development and plans for independent research distinct from current group.

Host organisation must commit to fund your salary and support “transition to independence” career stage.

Must intend to remain clinically active during or after the fellowship.

Not concurrently hold another UKRI fellowship or similar independent grant; not more than two previous MRC fellowship applications.

Fellowship hosted at an eligible UK research organisation (visa support required for non-UK nationals).

Consumables, equipment, travel, training, data preservation/sharing, estates and indirect costs

Public partnership activities, NHS research costs, and up to 12 months secondment overseas or to a second UK host

Co-funding: Opportunity to seek joint support from DEBRA, Diabetes UK, Macular Society, Medical Research Foundation, MND Association, Kidney Research UK, Parkinson’s UK, and others.
