
Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program
The Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) under the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) supports innovative, high-impact breast cancer research with clinical relevance for Service Members, Veterans, and the general public. The FY25 funding will focus on tackling key challenges in breast cancer, such as dormancy, recurrence, metastasis, overdiagnosis, and treatment innovation.
Eligibility Criteria:

Varies by award mechanism.

Generally open to independent investigators at all academic levels.

Era of Hope Scholar Award is limited to early-career investigators within 6 years of their last training.

All applicants must meet specific criteria outlined in each funding announcement.

Most awards require inclusion of two or more consumer advocates on the research team.

Breakthrough Award (Levels 1–3):

Funding: $540K–$5M (direct costs)

Duration: 3–4 years

For high-risk/high-reward to advanced translational studies

Level 1: No preliminary data required

Level 3: May support small-scale clinical trials

Funding: Up to $3.5M (direct costs)

Duration: 4 years

For exceptionally talented early-career investigators

Clinical Research Extension Award:

Funding: Up to $6M (direct costs)
