ASH Global Research Award (AGRA)

The American Society of Hematology (ASH) Global Research Award supports future international leaders in hematology by funding research and training activities. It is designed for early-career hematologists outside the U.S. and Canada, bridging the gap between training completion and establishing an independent career. The award encourages international collaboration through required mentorship and offers career development pathways such as the Explorer Pathway Program for applicants from low- and middle-income countries.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must reside and be based outside the United States and Canada

  • Must hold an MD, PhD, or MD-PhD (or equivalent)

  • Must be an ASH member in good standing

  • Must have a local mentor and a global mentor (outside the applicant’s region); at least one must be an ASH Active or International member

Funding Details:

  • Up to 100,000 USD for projects of one year or less

  • Up to 150,000 USD for multi-year projects (up to 3 years)

  • Explorer Pathway Program: Applicants from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) may receive $20,000 and a year-long career development plan if selected

Project Scope:

  • Basic, translational, clinical, and outcomes-based hematology research

  • Training at other institutions

  • Pilot studies and collaborative career development projects

Important Dates:

  • LOI Submission Opens: March 1, 2025

  • LOI Deadline: September 2, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET

  • Eligibility Notification: January 2026

  • Full Application Deadline (by invitation): April 2026

  • Award Notification: July 2026

    • Project description and timeline

    • Proposed budget

    • Mentorship plan

    • Career level description

    • CV or equivalent
