
Daphne Jackson Fellowship
The Daphne Jackson Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for non-clinical researchers to return to research after a career break of two or more years due to family, health, or caring responsibilities. These fellowships are funded by the Medical Research Council in partnership with The Daphne Jackson Trust, and are designed to rebuild skills and confidence for a successful long-term research career.
Eligibility Criteria

Must have taken a career break of two years or more from paid research for family, health, or caring reasons

Open to non-clinical researchers only

Residency in the UK and the right to work in the UK is required

Must possess a good first degree in a research subject

For Research Fellowships: PhD or at least three years of academic or industrial research experience prior to the break

For Research Technical Professional Fellowships: A PhD may not be required, but a professional or technical qualification may be necessary

Good spoken and written English

Basic computer literacy
-
Not currently engaged in paid research work or retraining (e.g., MSc in a related field)
Ineligible Activities During Career Break

Paid research of any form

More than six hours per week of degree-level lecturing

Enrolment in related retraining programs (e.g., MSc)
Funding Details

Fully funded part-time fellowships tailored to the applicant’s discipline and return-to-work needs

Fellowship durations and financial terms vary depending on project scope and host institution
