ERC Consolidator Grant

The ERC Consolidator Grant supports scientists with 7–12 years of post-PhD experience who are ready to strengthen their independence and establish or consolidate a research team in Europe. Designed to foster scientific excellence, this highly competitive grant enables researchers to pursue ambitious, ground-breaking projects across any discipline.

Eligibility Criteria:

7–12 years since successful PhD defence
Open to researchers of any nationality
Must propose excellent science and demonstrate strong leadership potential
Host institution must be located in an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe-associated country
Extensions to eligibility allowed for parental leave, national service, illness, or other qualifying events
Principal Investigator (PI) must submit on behalf of a Host Institution, with commitment required if awarded
Team members may be of any nationality, and may work in non-EU countries

Funding Details:

Up to 2 million EUR for a maximum of 5 years
Additional 1 million EUR available for:
- Relocation from a third country
- Major equipment or large-scale field work
100% of direct costs funded, plus 25% contribution toward indirect costs

Deadline:

Call opens: Anticipated Q2–Q3 2025
Call closes: ~3 months after opening (exact date to be confirmed in ERC Work Programme 2025)
