
John Gavin Postdoctoral Fellowship
This prestigious fellowship supports early-career researchers with a doctoral degree who aim to build an independent scientific career in any cancer-related field, including biomedical, clinical, public health, epidemiological, or psychosocial research. The award provides full salary support and flexibility over two to five years to facilitate a sustainable path to independence.
Eligibility Criteria:

New Zealand citizens or permanent residents

Completed a PhD (or equivalent) within the last five years

In some cases, applicants with a submitted thesis but pending final results may apply (award is conditional on final degree approval)

Must not already hold more than one Principal Investigator application in the same round

Must commit to Māori Health Advancement as outlined by the Health Research Council
Funding Details:

Covers two years of full postdoctoral salary

Flexible award period: 2 to 5 years

No overheads, capital costs, or conference travel included

Salary ceases if a tenured position is secured

Separate application required for professional development or training-related travel

Salary based on NZ academic standards if tenured overseas
