
Fondazione AIRC: Next Gen Clinician Scientist Grant
The Next Gen Clinician Scientist Grant by Fondazione AIRC supports talented physician-scientists committed to optimizing clinical practice in oncology. Projects may focus on academic-driven clinical trials, biomarkers, diagnostics, surgery, radiotherapy, and patient stratification. The program helps clinician-scientists establish independent lines of clinical research at Italian institutions.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must hold a medical degree (MD)

Must be 45 years old or younger by June 17, 2024 (born on or after June 17, 1978)

Must have a strong research track record (at least 5 first/last/corresponding author papers in the last 5 years)

The project must be carried out at a research institution in Italy

Applicants must dedicate at least 50% of their time to the project

A pre-submission inquiry is mandatory
Funding Details:

Duration: 5 years
-
Total funding: up to 1,500,000 EUR (average 300,000 EUR per year)

Start date: July 1, 2025

Year 4 and 5 are contingent on a successful mid-term review in year 3
-
Covers direct research costs, salaries for early-career personnel, and limited overheads (PI salary not covered)

Cannot fund company-driven trials or purely basic research
