
FAPESP Young Investigator Grant for International Researchers
The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) invites outstanding researchers from any country, who have been living and working abroad for at least two years, to apply for the Young Investigator Grant for International Researchers. This initiative aims to recruit up to 20 exceptional scientists to lead independent, high-impact research projects at institutions in São Paulo, Brazil. Proposals must demonstrate originality, innovation, and strong potential for scientific leadership.
Eligibility:

Must have lived and worked abroad for at least two years in research positions sponsored by international institutions

Must meet the general eligibility criteria of the FAPESP Young Investigator Grant
-
Must demonstrate significant scientific leadership and postdoctoral accomplishments
-
Open to all areas of knowledge (basic to applied research)
-
Proposals must be independent (not extensions of existing collaborations)
-
Project must be written in English
Funding:
-
Maximum project duration: 60 months
-
Research support of up to BRL 2,500,000 (approximate value in USD subject to exchange rates) per proposal
-
A Young Investigator Fellowship provided for the entire project duration or until a permanent position is obtained
-
Travel stipend for relocation (airfare) according to FAPESP’s installation aid policy
-
Funding also includes eligibility for postdoctoral, PhD, MSc, and undergrad research fellowships
-

Submission Process:
All submissions must be made through the SAGe platform (sage.fapesp.br) in three stages:

Pre-proposal (Required documents):

5-page CV (with Scopus ID, Google Scholar, Web of Science ID)

5-page research summary

Motivation letter
-
Preliminary budget items (quotes not required)

Host institution not required at this stage

Full proposal (for invited applicants):

Complete budget (with company quotes for capital items)

Description of roles and schedules for each fellowship

External peer review and FAPESP committee evaluation

Interview:

Shortlisted applicants will undergo a virtual interview with the evaluation committee

Innovation and originality of the research

Potential scientific and societal impact

Applicant’s demonstrated leadership and independence

Interdisciplinary and high-risk/high-reward approaches welcomed

Suitability of applicant’s background for proposed project

Ability to initiate strategic collaborations
