OncoDaily – Big Questions During ESMO 2026

OncoDaily – Big Questions During ESMO 2026 will take place on October 24, 2026, from 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM in Madrid, Spain, during the ESMO 2026 Congress.
The session, chaired by Prof. Jean-Yves Blay, will bring together clinicians, clinical trialists, researchers, regulators, policymakers, patient advocates, and other oncology leaders for an open discussion of the decisions that shape cancer research, drug development, regulation, and patient access.
Rather than a traditional lecture programme, the event will centre on a moderated two-hour panel discussion, with dedicated time for audience questions and participation. The discussion will examine how different stakeholders approach critical decisions across the oncology ecosystem and where perspectives align or diverge.
Key topics will include the fragility of clinical evidence, what happens when important trials end prematurely, how much uncertainty should be accepted in regulatory approvals, the divide between regulatory and clinical interpretation of evidence, and the persistent gap between a treatment being approved and actually becoming available to patients.
The panel will also explore questions around research funding, trial continuation and closure, commercially unattractive research questions, evidence thresholds for changing clinical practice, health economics, reimbursement, and equitable access to cancer treatments.
