Oncothon: Nature Oncogene’s Significance In Pediatric Oncology
Oncothon is a telethon spanning 24 hours, dedicated to gathering donations for childhood cancer research, will feature Justin Stebbing, Editor-in-Chief of ‘Nature’s cancer journal ‘Oncogene,’ discussing natural reviews in clinical oncology, particularly in the context of pediatric oncology.
Speakers
Professor Justin Stebbing currently holds the position of Professor of Biomedical Sciences at ARU, Cambridge, he is also Editor-in-Chief of Nature’s cancer journal Oncogene. He is on the Editorial Board of OncoDaily. Previously he served as Professor of Cancer Medicine and Oncology at Imperial College London from 2009 to 2022. Now he is a visiting professor at Imperial College London. His expertise spans various malignancies, with a focus on their treatment through immunotherapy, particularly in breast, gastrointestinal, and lung cancers, alongside conducting clinical trials.
Throughout his career, Stebbing has authored over 700 peer-reviewed papers. His research concentrates on advancing cancer therapies, including biomarker-guided approaches, with a particular interest in circulating tumor cells and cell-free DNA. His laboratory investigations delve into new druggable targets and gene regulation, with a specific focus on non-coding RNAs in stem cells.
Notably, Stebbing’s team published groundbreaking research in Nature Medicine, identifying a novel cancer-causing gene implicated in numerous solid tumors, prompting the initiation of a drug development program. Recognizing his contributions, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) appointed Stebbing as its first-ever translational research professor in oncology. This role aims to connect laboratory findings with patient treatment, paving the way for personalized therapies.
