Ulrika Årehed Kågström is the President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Secretary-General of the Swedish Cancer Society, where she has served since 2016. She is also a board member of the Nordic Cancer Union and a member of the Swedish Government’s Life Science Advisory Group. Being widely recognized for leading large, complex organizations through periods of transformation, under her leadership, the Swedish Cancer Society became Sweden’s largest fundraising organization, increasing revenue by more than 50% since 2016. She has advanced WHO-aligned global cancer and NCD strategies and elevated civil-society leadership in international health policy. Her work is marked by strong advocacy, transparency, and a commitment to equity in cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and care.
She has served on the UICC Board of Directors since 2018, holding multiple leadership roles including Treasurer and Chair of key committees across finance, governance, strategy, advocacy, and policy. Prior to joining the Swedish Cancer Society, she was Secretary-General of the Swedish Red Cross. In addition to her global health leadership, Ulrika has held numerous governance roles across public, cultural, and civil society institutions in Sweden, reflecting her broad expertise in organizational stewardship and public service.
