George Kapetenakis Recognized Among The 100 Most Influential CEOs in Oncology in 2025

George Kapetanakis is President of the Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK), the national umbrella organisation representing cancer patient associations across Greece. He has led ELLOK since its early development phase beginning in 2015, drawing on his own experience with haematological cancer to drive sustained engagement in patient advocacy. Under his leadership, ELLOK was officially recognised as the National Cancer Mission Hub of Greece, helping guide national efforts aligned with European cancer research and care priorities and strengthening collaboration between patient organisations, healthcare stakeholders and policymakers. Kapetanakis also serves as President of the Pieria Cancer Patients Association and is active in volunteering with the Bone Marrow Donor Volunteer Association “Orama Elpidas.”

In addition to his work with ELLOK, Kapetanakis has expanded his influence in international cancer advocacy. He serves on the board of All.Can International for the 2025–2026 term and is a member of the Globalized Patient Advocacy Working Group of the European Society for Medical Oncology for the same period, contributing to efforts that strengthen the patient voice in oncology across Europe. He also participates in Ministry of Health working groups on the National Cancer Registry and clinical trials, advocating for policy changes such as the “right to be forgotten” to reduce discrimination faced by cancer survivors and improve integration into society.

The 100 CEOs featured here reflect the diversity and complexity of modern oncology leadership. In 2025, some lead the world’s largest cancer institutions; others guide specialized societies or emerging innovators. What unites them is responsibility: for millions of patients, for the integrity of science, and for the future direction of cancer care globally.
