Cary Adams is the Chief Executive Officer of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), a role he has held since 2009. Based in Geneva, he leads the world’s largest international cancer NGO, uniting more than 1,150 member organizations across 170+ countries to reduce the global cancer burden, advance equity, and integrate cancer control into global health and development agendas. Under his leadership, UICC has expanded its global influence, strengthened multi-sector partnerships, and positioned cancer firmly within the non-communicable disease (NCD) and sustainable development frameworks.
During this time, UICC elevated World Cancer Day into the largest global cancer awareness campaign; secured formal relations with the World Health Organization; and drove the adoption of cancer-control commitments at multiple United Nations High-Level Meetings on NCDs. He played a central role in shaping the World Cancer Declaration and expanding population-based cancer registries through the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development. He also served two terms as Chair of the NCD Alliance Board, representing a coalition of approximately 2,000 organizations addressing major non-communicable diseases worldwide. His leadership has been recognized with multiple international awards, including CEO of the Year (2015) and the International Healthcare Leadership Award (2023) for his contributions to global health and leadership development.
