Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, Founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation and Member of the OncoDaily Editorial Board has been elected as UICC President-Elect 2024-2026.

“I am deeply honored to have been elected as Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) President-Elect 2024-2026. My heartfelt thanks go to all UICC members who voted and supported the campaign. This is not a personal victory, but a step forward in our shared fight against cancer.
Together, we will work to bring equity, innovation, and access to cancer care for all.
I look forward to working with the UICC President, Ulrika Årehed Kågström, my colleague CS Pramesh the board members and especially the Dr Cary Adams led management that run the organization.

About Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu
Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu is a distinguished pediatrician and global health leader, deeply dedicated to women’s health and cancer care.
A trailblazer in Nigerian healthcare, she founded Medicaid Radio-Diagnostics and Clinics, the first comprehensive diagnostic center in Abuja, addressing a crucial need in medical services.
Recognizing the critical need for cancer care, she also established the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, which focuses on raising awareness, promoting prevention, and enhancing access to treatment. The foundation has successfully raised over $2 million to help bridge gaps in cancer care.
As the former First Lady of Kebbi State, Dr. Bagudu used her role to lead impactful healthcare initiatives, such as creating a comprehensive cancer control plan and expanding HPV vaccination programs for girls. Her advocacy extends to the global stage through her involvement with the Union for International Cancer Control and First Ladies Against Cancer.
Dr. Bagudu’s unwavering commitment to improving lives makes her a powerful advocate in the fight against cancer, actively empowering communities and influencing healthcare policies in Nigeria and internationally.
Education
Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu completed her elementary education at Queens College Lagos, graduating in 1984, and then attended Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where she earned her MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine). Later, she achieved a Master’s degree in Pediatrics and a Diploma in Tropical Child Health, and became a member of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health in London.
