Paolo A. Ascierto Started New Position at the University of Naples Federico II as Full Professor of Oncology

Paolo A. Ascierto, Full Professor of Oncology at the University of Naples Federico II, Director of the Department of Melanoma, Cancer Immunotherapy and Development Therapeutics at the National Cancer Institute IRCCS Pascale Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today I officially take up my position as Full Professor of Oncology at the University of Naples Federico II.

This represents a return to the institution where I obtained my degree, completed my specialization, and where my aspiration to become an oncologist first took shape.

My academic responsibilities will run in parallel with my clinical activity at the National Cancer Institute IRCCS “Fondazione Pascale”, where I have grown as a professional, achieved important milestones in my training, and which has been fundamental in bringing me to this point.

On this occasion, I wish to acknowledge those who have profoundly influenced my path:

Prof. Gianfranco Tajana – the importance of communication
– Prof. Vecchio – the spark of oncology
Prof. Lello Bianco – my school of oncology
Prof. Maria Triassi – a valuable managerial guide
Prof. Giovanella Palmieri – the thesis, clinical training, and passion for patients

At Pascale, I am grateful to colleagues who have significantly marked my professional development:

Prof. Zarrilli – like a father to me
Dr. Pino Comella – the beginning of my clinical commitment to melanoma
Dr. Giuseppe Castello – 15 years together, a master of oncological immunology
Prof. Nicola Mozzillo – a mentor and a brother

I also wish to extend a special recognition to Directors Maurizio di Mauro and Alfredo Budillon, for their continuous support in strengthening the collaboration between Pascale and the University.

Finally, my sincere thanks go to Rector Prof. Mattia Lorito, who strongly supported this transition, as well as to Dean Prof. Giovanni Esposito and Prof. Ciro Costagliola for making this new chapter possible.

Today marks, in many ways, my first day of “school” in a new role.
A new chapter, with the same enduring commitment: to care, to research, to teach.”
