Thomas Bortfeld: A New Chapter in Advancing Radiation Oncology Innovation at DFCI

Thomas Bortfeld, Senior Director of Medical Physics Innovation and Technology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, shared on LinkedIn:

“I am happy to share that I started a new position as Senior Director of Medical Physics Innovation and Technology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) in Boston.

After 25 highly fulfilling years at Massachusetts General Hospital, I had expected to stay there permanently. However, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help establish a new radiation oncology department at DFCI.

Over the next couple of years, one of our primary tasks will be to transform this former DFCI conference room into a world-class proton therapy center. It is encouraging to see that our concept of democratizing proton therapy by using gantry-less systems in existing spaces is gaining traction in the US and around the world. I am looking forward to playing an even more active role in making this dream a widespread clinical reality. ”
