Cancer Fight Tanzania shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Meet our team.
Shaibu Issa is a passionate and dedicated Global Hepatitis B advocate from Tanzania with lived experience, serving as a certified Hepatitis B trainer and impactful storyteller. He is the Vice Chairman of the Organization for Medical Outreach to Communities (OMOC) and a recognized leader in the fight against hepatitis B and liver cancer globally.
Since June 2022, Shaibu has been a member of the Hepatitis B Foundation’s Global Community Advisory Board (HBV-CAB) in the United States. In this role, he integrates his experience and expertise in drug development and clinical research to accelerate the search for a hepatitis B cure. He also participated in the Foundation’s just B storytelling campaign, raising awareness of hepatitis B as a global public health priority.
Shaibu serves as a member of the Coalition Against Hepatitis in People of African Origin (CHIPO), a U.S.-based coalition addressing the high rates of hepatitis B infections among African communities. Representing Africa as a high-burden region for viral hepatitis and liver cancer, he holds a key position on the Steering Committee of the International Liver Cancer Movement (ILCM) – the first global movement dedicated to tackling liver cancer.
Starting January 2025, Shaibu will serve as a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Patient Advisory Group (PAG).
Shaibu works closely with the World Hepatitis Alliance in their various campaign including ‘Cant Wait Campain’ Launching in the summer of 2021, that highlighted the social injustice and inequity caused by the current lack of action on hepatitis elimination and focus on the positive action needed to get on track to meet our 2030 elimination goals.
Shaibu is renowned for his extraordinary efforts to raise awareness about hepatitis B in colleges, universities, and marginalized communities.
He also leverages platforms like X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn to educate audiences on the importance of hepatitis testing, vaccination, and timely treatment. His advocacy has reached thousands, making him a driving force for change in Africa and beyond.
Shaibu firmly believes that collaboration is the key to making hepatitis a thing of the past. Join his mission to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030.”
