Sendurai Mani, Associate Director of Translational Oncology at Legorreta Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:
“I am incredibly proud to see Alicia Zhou featured by the Whitehead Institute and to see the extraordinary path she has taken from undergraduate researcher to CEO of the Cancer Research Institute (CRI).
Alicia joined Robert Weinberg’s laboratory as an undergraduate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where I had the privilege of mentoring her.
Even then, she brought intellectual curiosity, rigor, kindness, and a remarkable ability to turn big questions into thoughtful next steps.
Her reflections capture an important truth:
scientific training does far more than prepare us for the bench. It teaches us to ask the right questions, follow the data, navigate uncertainty, build resilient teams, and make progress through many small but purposeful steps.
Alicia is now helping to ensure that bold cancer immunotherapy science continues to advance at a time when sustained support for discovery is especially essential.
Her leadership at CRI will help empower outstanding investigators and, ultimately, improve the lives of patients with cancer.
Congratulations, Alicia. It is wonderful to see your impact continuing to grow.”
