“We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Professor Sanjay Popat.
Professor Popat joined the Trust nearly 20 years ago and has successfully combined clinical duties with a wide research portfolio. He has authored and co-authored 190 peer-reviewed publications and was appointed Professor of Thoracic Oncology at The Institute of Cancer Research in 2019.
He was The Royal Marsden’s clinical lead for the 100,000 Genomes Project at Genomics England, and chaired the West London Genomic Medicine Centre for Cancer, and thereafter its Genomic Tumour Advisory Board. His research was instrumental in the implementation of our ctDNA and genomic profiling into routine clinical pathways.
Professor Popat will bring a wealth of clinical and research experience to the Executive Team ensuring The Royal Marsden continues to deliver world class care, research and innovation that benefits cancer patients in the UK and around the world.”
