Nazima Hodjaeva: Internship in Endoscopic Gynecology at a Leading French Center
Nazima Hodjaeva, Obstetrician-Gynecologist, Founder and Owner of Mediofarm Hospital Group, shared about her internship in endoscopic gynecology at Bicêtre Hospital in France:
“I recently completed an internship in endoscopic gynecology at Bicêtre Hospital (Gynecology and Obstetrics Department), part of the University Hospital Group (GHU) Paris Sud in Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, France, a recognized center for hysteroscopy and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
During this period, I gained extensive exposure to both diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy, observing and assisting in a wide range of procedures including hysteroscopic metroplasty for a septate uterus, polypectomy, adhesiolysis, and other fertility‑sparing interventions, which allowed me to deepen my understanding of patient selection, preoperative assessment, intraoperative decision‑making, and postoperative care.
I learned practical aspects of contemporary hysteroscopic practice – use of rigid and flexible hysteroscopes, resectoscopes, bipolar energy systems, distension medium management, and strategies to minimize and manage complications such as bleeding, fluid overload, and uterine perforation – while also observing anesthesia and analgesia approaches and the organization of ambulatory pathways for day‑case procedures.
Participation in clinical rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and postoperative discussions, together with teaching sessions and informal tutorials with senior consultants, enriched both my theoretical knowledge and technical skills and stimulated ideas for quality improvement and future collaborative research in minimally invasive gynecology.
The experience also provided valuable insight into the functioning of a high‑volume tertiary gynecology service within the AP‑HP network, including clinical governance, training structures, and a patient‑centered approach to care, and offered meaningful cultural and professional exchange working alongside colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
I am deeply grateful to Professor Perrine Capmas and the entire Bicêtre Hospital team for their professionalism, mentorship and the opportunity to engage directly in clinical work; to Dr. Florence Weber, Director of the International Department of the AP‑HP group, for her organizational support in arranging this international experience; to my mentor Professor Alisher Kahharov for initiating and coordinating the collaboration and guiding me throughout the process; and to the French Embassy in Uzbekistan and its Cultural Section for their role in strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and France and supporting the development of international medical exchange.”
