Ella Kazerooni Received the American Cancer Society Volunteer Leadership Award
Ella Kazerooni was recently awarded with The American Cancer Society Volunteer Leadership Award.
Ella A. Kazerooni, MD, is a Professor of Radiology and Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, where she also serves as the Associate Chief Clinical Officer for the Diagnostic and Clinical Information Oversight Team within the University of Michigan Medical Group.
She earned her medical degree, completed her diagnostic radiology residency, and underwent fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School before joining the University of Michigan faculty in 1992.
Dr. Kazerooni has held leadership roles in several radiology organizations, including president of the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society of Thoracic Radiology, and the Association of University Radiologists.
She has also been a board member of the American College of Radiology and the American Board of Radiology.
As the inaugural chair of the American Cancer Society’s Lung Cancer Screening Roundtable, she advocates for early detection and improved access to diagnostic and treatment options for lung cancer.
Dr. Kazerooni is actively involved in developing multispecialty guidelines for lung cancer screening and related areas through organizations such as the American College of Radiology, the American College of Cardiology, and the National Quality Forum.
She currently leads lung cancer screening initiatives as Executive Sponsor of the ACR, chairs the Lung Cancer Screening Registry, and serves as vice-chair of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Lung Cancer Screening Guidelines.
Dedicated to mentorship and collaboration, Dr. Kazerooni has helped shape the careers of junior faculty, fellows, and residents.
She has received the Teacher of the Year and Mentor of the Year awards from University of Michigan radiology residents.
As the founding chair of the Radiology Service Excellence Committee, she played a key role in improving patient satisfaction and service quality across the department, which led to the highest patient satisfaction scores across the U-M Health System.
The ACS Volunteer Leadership Award is given to individuals who have served as volunteer leaders for enterprise-wide programs, initiatives, or board-level committees or task forces (excluding the chair of the American Cancer Society Board of Directors).
It also recognizes those who have provided long and distinguished service to the American Cancer Society at the enterprise level.
