Luis Diaz has been named to Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business for 2023 list – Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Congratulations to Dr. Luis Diaz Jr., Head of the Division of Solid Tumor Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, who has been named to Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business for 2023 list. Dr. Diaz spearheaded a 2022 clinical trial for people with rectal cancer that resulted in a 100% success rate — every patient’s tumor disappeared. He is now looking to start similar trials for gastric, esophageal, prostate, and pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Diaz, a first-generation Peruvian American, says that the treatment has the potential to save lives around the world: “In South America, where my family’s from, when the patients get cancer, you don’t have radiation or chemotherapy or surgery like we do,” he says. “Now, if you can diagnose cancer with a liquid biopsy and get treated with pembro, you don’t need that medical infrastructure. You can leapfrog all that.”
