Brenda Weigel Was Appointed As The VP of Clinical Research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital officially welcomed Brenda Weigel as its new Vice President of Clinical Research Industry Engagement.
Brenda Weigel, MD, is the Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Minnesota and a Professor at both the Masonic Cancer Center and the Department of Pediatrics.
She holds the Lehman/Children’s Cancer Research Fund Endowed Chair in Pediatric Cancer and co-directs the Sarcoma Program at the Masonic Cancer Center. Dr. Weigel is also the medical director for the Masonic Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office.
She earned her medical degree from McMaster University in Ontario and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Western Ontario.
In 1996, she joined the University of Minnesota for a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, where she developed a rhabdomyosarcoma model in Bruce Blazar’s lab.
Dr. Weigel’s research focuses on advancing cancer therapies, particularly those leveraging the immune system.
She is actively involved with the Children’s Oncology Group, serving as Chair of the Developmental Therapeutics Committee, Co-chair of the New High Risk Rhabdomyosarcoma Study, and as the COG representative on the National Cancer Institute’s Investigational Drug Steering Committee.
