“LEADERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT: Deeply excited to announce Dr. Nadine Barrett as Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as serving as Chief Community Engagement Officer for our cancer service line Atrium Health Levine Cancer.
Dr. Barrett will lead our efforts in better understanding the cancer care needs of our communities by strengthening bi-directional partnerships and our community advisory board. She will also work with local, state, and national leaders to decrease the burden of cancer in our communities. In her role as Chief Community Engagement Officer for the Atrium Health Levine Cancer service line, she will provide strategic thought leadership to ensure that our scientific programs, cancer research training, cancer care, and COE efforts are equitable, inclusive, cohesive, and aligned with the needs of our diverse communities.
A nationally recognized expert and thought leader on improving equity and diversity in clinical research, Dr. Barrett has an unparalleled track record of successful, authentic community engagement with historically marginalized communities. Through her development of groundbreaking programs, she has improved transparency, promoted trustworthiness in research, and facilitated efforts by academic health systems to address inequities in health. Dr. Barrett: ‘What excites me most about this unique opportunity is working with the incredible team committed to cancer equity. I look forward to joining them to help our patients and community; maximizing our combined impact while reducing cancer disparities in North Carolina, regionally and nationally.'”
