Asem Mansour, Director General of King Hussein Cancer Center is running for the UICC Board of Directors.

He is currently a Board Member for the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and a Commissioner for the Lancet Commission on Cancer and Health Systems (2022-2024).

This year he’s running among other candidates including Matti Aapro, Tsetsegsaikhan Batmunkh, Stella Aguinaga Bialous, Purna Kurkure, Hana Chaar Choueib, Todd Harper, Christopher Jackson, Dilyara Kaidarova, David Kerr, Eric Bouffet, Gilberto Lopes, Kenji Lopez-Cuevas, Maira Caleffi, Miriam Mutebi, Omar Nimri, C S Pramesh, Kathleen Schmeler, and Naoto Ueno.

Asem H. Mansour, M.D., has served as the CEO and Director General of Jordan’s King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC)—the largest independent comprehensive cancer center in the Middle East—since 2012. He oversees a team of over 3,000 staff members, including 400 oncologists and consultants, dedicated to delivering top-quality care to cancer patients across the region.

Dr. Mansour’s involvement with KHCC began in 1998 as the Chairman of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, where he transformed the department into one of the Kingdom’s leading diagnostic imaging centers, equipped with advanced technology and skilled personnel.

In 2006, he advanced to the role of Deputy Director General, and in early 2012, he became the Director General of KHCC as well as the Executive Chairman of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP), a national initiative aimed at enhancing early breast cancer detection and improving service quality throughout Jordan.

Since taking the helm at KHCC, Dr. Mansour has been instrumental in defining and executing the center’s strategic vision, expanding its service offerings, and leveraging advancements in cancer care, oncology training, and research. This has established KHCC as a premier oncology center in the region and an internationally recognized hub for cancer treatment, attracting over 6,000 new patients annually from Jordan and abroad.

Dr. Mansour’s extensive experience has been vital to KHCC’s success. He has guided the nursing and quality management teams to achieve recognition as one of the world’s top ten hospitals and the first oncology specialized center outside the U.S. to receive the prestigious Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in 2019. Under his leadership, KHCC also attained AHAARP accreditation in 2019, marking it as a leading research institution in the Middle East.

An accomplished author, Dr. Mansour published his debut book, “Two Years of Solitude,” in September 2021, addressing critical issues faced during the pandemic and emphasizing the importance of relying on scientific sources for information. He has contributed to over 80 peer-reviewed publications and serves as an editor, columnist, and reviewer. In 2022, he co-authored an eBook titled “Bioethics amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic,” published in Frontiers in Medicine.

Education

Asem H. Mansour, M.D., is a distinguished medical professional with extensive education in his field. He earned his M.D. from the Vitebsk Medical Institute and completed a fellowship with the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in London.

Additionally, he holds a Master’s in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University and was recognized as a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) by the American Association of Physicians Leadership in 2022.

Further enhancing his qualifications, he obtained an M.Sc. in International Public Health from Liverpool John Moores University in 2023, reflecting his commitment to advancing healthcare on a global scale.
