“Next Wednesday we’re kicking off Season 3 of our Women in Healthcare Leadership Podcast Series, a season dedicated to the incredible women shaping the future of healthcare. And what better time to begin than in the same week as International Womens Day?
In our premiere episode, we welcome Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, a UK-trained pediatrician whose return to Nigeria opened her eyes to a startling reality: the mothers bringing their children to her hospital were struggling with their own health concerns – silent, overlooked, and often undiagnosed. Their lack of awareness about women’s cancers led her to found the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, dedicated to education, prevention, and early detection in northern Nigeria.
She’s joined by Dr. Nermean Mostafa, lecturer of clinical oncology at Ain Shams University, Cairo, and a leading voice in Egypt’s Presidential Initiative for Cancer Early Detection and Management. Together, they discuss the urgent need for better education, the challenges of reaching women with life-saving information, and the work they’re doing to close these gaps.
