Wafaa M Rashed: Grateful for the Support That Shaped the Birth of PAPERI
Wafaa M Rashed, Chair and Founder of PAPERI, shared a post on LinkedIn by Elizangela Junqueira, Professor and Researcher at the State University of Bahia (UNEB), adding:
“Thank you so much, Dr. Elizangela Junqueira, for your kind words and for recognizing the spirit behind the birth of PAPERI. Our conversation at the CLIC 2023 meeting in Seattle was truly inspiring.
I would like to especially acknowledge the incredible support I received from CLIC members at the early stages of Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI) – Prof. Dr. Joseph Wiemels, Prof. Dr. Logan Spector (Chair of CLIC), Dr. Catherine Metayer, as well as Dr. Joachim Schüz, Ann Olsson, and Dr. Roya Dolatkhah from IARC (WHO).
Their encouragement and belief in the importance of building scientific capacity in Africa were instrumental. I will never forget their support. I am proud that PAPERI now stands as a platform that connects continents, promotes research equity, and nurtures the next generation of scientists.
With appreciation,
Wafaa M. Rashed
Founder and Chair, PAPERI.”
Quoting Elizangela Junqueira’s post:
“I congratulate on the first year of activities of the Pan-African Education and Research (PAPERI), founded and chaired by Wafaa M Rashed, BPharm. MSc., PhD, BCNSP, PhD, BCNSP. At the annual meeting of the Childhood Cancer and Leukemia International Consortium (CLIC) in Seattle, 2023, we had the opportunity to talk about CLIC’s support for projects in Africa and South America and how we could leverage this support. PAPERI is one of the initiatives conceived at the meeting.
I am very happy to be part of this network of fantastic researchers whose work I have read over the years and who are making an impact with their research on the prevention and control of childhood cancer around the world. In fact, CLIC has inspired us to create research networks and train high-quality human resources. Due to Wafaa, the PAPERI is one such initiative in Africa, a powerful action to disseminate and share knowledge in low- and middle-income countries.”
