Toufic Kachaamy: Excited to Share the Latest Publication in the Journal of Clinical Medicine

“Excited to share the latest publication in the Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM) MDPI from Ademola Adeyeye, Amyn Haji and their group titled:

“Palliative Luminal Treatment of Colorectal Cancer Using Endoscopic Calcium-Electroporation: First Case Series from the UK”

In this case series, they report on the first use of endoscopic calcium-electroporation (Ca-EP) in the UK as a palliative treatment for patients with inoperable colorectal cancer. These are often patients who are not candidates for surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation and who are too often left with limited options.

Some key outcomes:

• 16 patients (median age: 84.5) received 36 treatments
• 86.7% experienced symptom relief and improved quality of life
• 91.7% no longer required transfusions or iron infusions
• No device-related adverse events were observed
• All treatments performed as outpatient procedures via flexible endoscopy

This is a first meaningful step forward in offering minimally invasive therapies to a population that needs them most. There’s still a great deal of work ahead more research is urgently needed to expand access to safe and effective endoscopic cancer ablation techniques for patients with advanced disease.
