Susanna Fletcher Greer: If We Can’t Do Big Things for Kids, What’s It All for?
Susanna Fletcher Greer, Chief Scientific Officer at the V Foundation, shared on LinkedIn:
“Tomorrow is one of my favorite days the V Foundation: it’s our pediatric cancer grant review.
Pediatric cancers account for just 1% of all new cancer diagnoses in the U.S., but they take much more…childhoods, dreams, futures. And while treatments HAVE improved, too many pediatric cancers still have few effective options and devastating long-term effects. Kids deserve better.
That’s why I’m proud that pediatric cancer represents a substantial and growing part of our research portfolio at the V Foundation. It’s a space where bold ideas are urgently needed, and where we’re investing with purpose.
I still remember a conversation with a parent whose child had just been diagnosed. She said, “I’ll do anything. Go anywhere. Try anything.” And I promised her we would fight just as fiercely. Tomorrow, we honor that promise.
To our reviewers – our Scientific Advisory Committee and ad hoc experts: THANK YOU for helping us fund the very best science. To the researchers doing this work: THANK YOU for bringing your brilliance to one of the most urgent challenges in cancer.
If we can’t do BIG THINGS for kids, what’s it all for?”
