Susanna Fletcher Greer: Striving to Support the Whole Person Behind the Science at the V Foundation
Susanna Fletcher Greer, Chief Scientific Officer of The V Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Some Sunday reflections, featuring Rico, who always knows when I need a moment to breathe.
Academic careers are full of excitement, discovery, growth, innovation. But they can also be deeply lonely.
Starting a lab. Running a lab. Transitioning from postdoc to assistant professor, or from the bench to administration. These are huge shifts, and it’s easy to feel like you’re the only one struggling to find your footing.
The truth is, everyone faces challenges when they step into something new and big. We just don’t always talk about it.
That’s why community matters. Whether it’s a quick check-in with a friend, a mentor’s words of encouragement, or just a quiet moment with a good dog, reaching out can make all the difference.
At the V Foundation, we strive to support the whole person behind the science. We want every grantee we fund to feel surrounded, seen, and championed, especially in those uncertain moments.
To anyone in the middle of a transition or facing doubt today: you are not alone. Science needs you. And there’s a whole village ready to walk with you.
And if all else fails, get yourself a Rico.”
