Cancer workforce shortages are reaching a critical point – European Cancer Organisation
European Cancer Organisation reshared a post by Tilly Metz, Member of the European Parliament, on LinkedIn, adding:
“Cancer workforce shortages are reaching a critical point – we must act now!
Insufficient staff, low salaries, excessive workload… These are among the top reasons why 8% of European Cancer professionals are considering leaving the profession within the next 1 to 5 years.
Cancer workforce shortages show no sign of improvement – it’s time to react!
ECO fully endorses MEP Tilly Metz’s call for a joint European solution to health workforce shortages and joins the voices demanding urgent action.
Through our Cancer Workforce Crisis Campaign, we are calling on European governments to collaborate with EU institutions and develop a comprehensive Cancer Workforce Action Plan, addressing:
- Fair staffing standards to ensure sustainable workloads.
- Healthy work environments that support the well-being of cancer professionals.
- Digitisation of healthcare systems to reduce administrative burdens and bureaucracy.
We will continue working alongside policymakers like Tilly Metz to drive a strong European response to the Cancer Workforce crisis.”
Quoting Tilly Metz‘s post:
“Yesterday, in plenary, I was finally able to address the issue of the shortage and need of health personnel in the EU, which is also an important issue for Luxembourg.”
