“A diagnosis as rare as it is insidious, an innovative surgical approach, and a patient who enjoys excellent health two years later.
This is the heart of the research published in the journal Gynecologic Oncology Reports, by researchers from the Sbarro Health Research Organization led by Prof. Antonio Giordano. In which the case of a woman successfully treated for a borderline primary serous tumor of the peritoneum (PPSBT) through laparoscopy is recounted. A minimally invasive treatment that could represent a breakthrough in the management of these rare malignancies.
An extraordinary achievement carried out by the SHRO team, led by Professor Antonio Giordano, with essential synergistic contributions from international researchers Dr. Canio Martinelli and Dr. Vito Iannone.
The study raises an important question: has the time come to update surgical protocols for peritoneal tumors with low malignant potential? When performed in specialized centers, laparoscopy allows faster recovery, fewer complications, and better cosmetic results, without compromising oncologic radicality.
Ultimately, this publication is more than just a case report: it is an invitation to look at gynecologic oncologic surgery with new eyes, in favor of a more personalized, less invasive approach that is more respectful of patients’ quality of life.”
