Sarah Sammons: US women have a cancer problem that is getting worse
Sarah Sammons, Medical oncologist at Dana-Farber’s Breast Oncology Center, posted on X:
“US women have a cancer problem that is getting worse. 1 in 3 will have cancer in their lifetime. 1 in 8 will have breast cancer.
Breast cancer risk is rising in women younger than 50, 1/47 will develop breast cancer.
The increase in young women is driven primarily by Estrogen Positive Breast Cancers. Risk factors include early menarche (worsening in US for decades), alcohol, obesity, no or late child bearing, some HRT and environmental factors we don’t understand.”
