Sarah Louden: Survivorship is often the loneliest chapter of the cancer journey

Sarah Louden, Founder and CEO of Total Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“To be sick, and feel alone—-we have to do better.

This article in NPR brings light to the concept of ‘cancer ghosting’. It’s a real and growing phenomenon, and I truly believe that it speaks to shifts in our greater society towards loneliness.

As someone who works closely with oncology professionals and patient advocates, I’ve seen how survivorship is often the loneliest chapter of the cancer journey.

Friends and loved ones may not always understand the long-term physical and emotional scars left behind.

This article is a reminder that survivorship isn’t just about being ‘cancer-free’—it’s about finding ways to heal, both personally and as a community.

Death of a loved one, divorce, children facing addiction, a diagnosis, financial ruin, being a teenager, being over 60–these are all times when friends and family might move farther away because they are not equipped with the emotional capacity to draw closer—

Seek to be a person to looks for ways to connect!

Not just on LinkedIn or by text, but with a phone call, a cup of coffee, a hand written note, a hand on their hand. We are disconnecting more and more. Push against the grain!”
