Sally Wolf: Addressing the need to ensure no one chooses between chemo and childcare

Sally Wolf, CEO and Founder of LightWorks, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Last night, my mom, sister and I strutted our 42 years of family survivorship/caregiving down the runway for an amazing cause:

Pink Aid is dedicated to help alleviate the financial toxicity so often caused by breast cancer (and so many other serious illnesses).

Earnings can suffer while on medical leave, with reduced work hours or unemployed. As a result, even those with good insurance often struggle to stay afloat during treatment.

Expenses like groceries, mortgages or rent, utilities, childcare, copays, rides to/from treatment, etc. add up. To name a few.

Last night’s ‘Pink After Dark’ raised $1.4 million to address the need to ensure no one chooses between chemo and childcare.

And as we raised, a few of us were lucky enough to also celebrated life – and be celebrated by the crowd. My mom, sister and I walked the runway along with 15 other pairs, all including 1 survivor and a close friend or family.

My mom is a 34+ year survivor. I’m 8+. My sister is an amazing support system and caregiver. And a Pink Aid champion, too.

With my dad, brother, brother in law, nephew and nieces cheering, we had a moment we will never forget.

For a cause I hope all of us can remember.

This is the type of awareness I do love. To be clear, last night was pretty, and also had lots of pink. But it also had clear purpose – which makes all the difference.

When I think about all the good fortune in my own cancer journey, my family’s financial security is always high on the list.

If you are similarly fortunate, please consider getting to know Pink Aid or other orgs like them.

Ps: How’d we do on the runway?!”
