Sahar Mansour: Healing Through the Monitor – A Journey in Breast Imaging

Sahar Mansour, Professor of Radiology in the Women’s Imaging Unit at Kasr El Ainy Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Healing Through the Monitor: A Journey in Breast Imaging.

In the fight against breast cancer, I am not the surgeon who removes the tumor or the oncologist who administers medication and therapy.

Guess what?

I am the unseen force staying behind the monitors, collecting data, and connecting the pieces together.

Credibility is paramount in radiology. It depends mainly on the buildup of clues from morphology descriptors, sometimes supported by functional values.

Collected data can sometimes be deceiving or overlapping.

My journey in breast imaging and cancer screening at Kasr Al Ainy School of Medicine, Cairo University and Baheya Foundation Hospitals and Centers has been both challenging and rewarding.

Every day, I am reminded of the profound impact that early detection can have on a woman’s life, using different modalities in screening cancer by mammography, contrast mammography, tomosynthesis, MR imaging, enhanced by AI reading.

As a professor, I have witnessed firsthand the power of technology in saving lives.

As a consultant, I help the multidisciplinary team of surgeons and oncologists achieve accurate diagnoses in less time for the examined ladies, leading to the proper choice of management plans.

As a researcher, I am committed to educating the next generation of radiologists, paving the way for numerous research opportunities, and ensuring that they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to continue this vital work.

Healing, to me, is not just about treating the disease but also about providing support and hope to the patients and their families. It is about using the latest technology to ensure that no woman must face the devastating consequences of late-stage breast cancer.

It is about being there for them, guiding them through the process, and commemorate their victories, no matter how small.

Together, we can make a difference, bring hope to countless women around the world and celebrate “World Cancer Day”.

“Every life saved is a testament to the importance of early detection and the advancements in breast imaging. To ensure the patient reaches a peaceful conclusion to her journey of stress, worry, and uncertainty, and closes her cancer chapter for a happily ever after.” S. Mansour.”
