Sachin H Jain: We Can Do Healthcare Differently, and We Can Do It Better

Sachin H Jain, President and CEO at SCAN Group, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This week marks five years since I joined SCAN.

It’s a moment that invites reflection—and above all, gratitude.

When I came to SCAN in 2020, we were a respected nonprofit with a powerful mission—keeping seniors healthy and independent. We had 219,000 members, primarily in California.

I was drawn to SCAN by that mission, but what continues to inspire me is the rebel spirit I saw in the team.

A spirit that said: “We can do healthcare differently, and we can do it better.”

Over the past five years, SCAN rebels have proven that spirit right:

– Membership has grown from 219,000 to 306,000.
– Revenue has more than doubled—from $2.7 billion to $5.5 billion.
– We’ve expanded our presence beyond California into Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and New Mexico.
– We built on our history of plan innovation (Connections and Village Health) to introduce first-in-industry products like SCAN Affirm (for LGBTQ+ seniors) and Inspired (for women).
– We’ve sustained nation-leading Star ratings, showing the country that excellence and scale can go hand in hand.
– We led a successful lawsuit against CMS that set a new paradigm for our industry.
– We announced a new joint-venture with Sutter Health, a major health system in Northern California.

We’ve launched and scaled four mission-aligned subsidiaries:

Healthcare in Action, delivering street medicine to people experiencing homelessness
Welcome Health, bringing primary care into the home
MyPlace Health, bringing the PACE model to new communities
Homebase Medical, building clinical capacity to support the most complex members

We also established the largest ISNP in California, SCAN Embrace and have won countless industry awards for our innovation and impact.

And through it all, we’ve stayed true to our mission, our nonprofit identity, and the people we serve.

We’ve challenged ourselves to be more accountable, more open, and more performance driven. We’ve embraced clearer expectations, direct feedback, and the kind of teamwork that only grows when trust is earned—not assumed.

That hasn’t always been easy. Change never is. But we did it together. The team showed up.

Through a global pandemic, through breakneck growth, through growing pains and breakthroughs—our rebels led with mission and heart.

To every SCAN rebel: thank you. You’ve helped make SCAN what it is today—and what it is becoming.

You’ve helped us prove that a nonprofit can grow, innovate, and lead without losing its soul.

We still have so much more to do.

More people to reach.
More systems to fix.
More lives to touch.

But if the last five years have shown me anything, it’s that this team can meet any challenge with resilience, integrity, and impact.

I’m incredibly proud to be your colleague—and deeply grateful to be on this journey with you.”
