What is Perioperative Therapy in Lung Cancer? – Lung Cancer Europe
Lung Cancer Europe shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Perioperative therapy means treatment given before or after lung cancer surgery. The aim is to reduce the chance of the cancer coming back.
For a long time, the standard approach for early-stage (resectable) lung cancer was surgery followed by chemotherapy. But new options are now being explored – including targeted therapies for specific mutations like EGFR or ALK, and immunotherapy in some cases.
In Europe, access to these approaches is still uneven. Osimertinib is approved after surgery for early-stage EGFR+ lung cancer. But for other mutations, there’s still a way to go.
People diagnosed early should have access to the best possible care. That means early testing and equal access to new treatments as they emerge.
