Monica Bertagnolli: All who pursue a career in biomedical research care deeply about the ultimate goals of the work
Monica Bertagnolli, the 17th Director of the National Institutes of Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“All who pursue a career in biomedical research care deeply about the ultimate goals of the work. We dream of solving a scientific mystery that leads to a cure for suffering, or of identifying a better way for our society to promote health for all people. We don’t succeed unless we believe in ourselves and are supported by talented colleagues.
Our work also critically depends upon an adequately funded research infrastructure that puts needed resources into the hands of talented organizations and individuals. These resources are not at all secure at the present time, and this is generating great anxiety and losses for many. This disruption will ultimately lead to losses for everyone.
This is a time for us all to renew our commitment to progress in biomedical research and above all to work together to overcome the challenges that we face. I urge everyone to read the excellent piece by Holden Thorp on this topic.
Thanks, Holden, for this important call to action.”
