Lucas’s journey with acute lymphoblastic leukemia – St. Baldrick’s Foundation
St. Baldrick’s Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Lucas’s journey with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) began in February 2023 with sore feet and ankles—initially thought to be growing pains. While on vacation, his discomfort worsened, and by March 3, his pain was unbearable. A trip to the ER confirmed every parent’s worst fear: leukemia.
Diagnosed with high-risk ALL, Lucas has endured intense treatment, including 10 cranial radiation treatments in February 2024. Though he faced severe side effects like Somnolence Syndrome, – side effect of radiation that left him sleeping nearly 20 hours a day, with no appetite or energy – his resilience amazed medical staff. His final chemotherapy dose is set for July 11, 2025—860 days after his battle began.
Through it all, coined “everyone’s friend,” Lucas remains kind and compassionate, bringing joy to those around him. He loves biking, fishing, VR, Squishmallows, and making stress-relief gifts for classmates and medical staff. Golf has been his escape, keeping him active even during isolation. His strength and kindness inspire everyone who meets him.
